Obituary of Robert L. Granger, Sr.

Allegany, NY Robert "Spaghetti" Granger, Sr., 83, of 1664 Allegany St. has gone to join his beloved daughter Linnae in Heaven. He passed away unexpectedly Wednesday (May 25, 2016) in Allegany. Born March 23, 1933 in Olean he was the son of Charles Sydney and Louise John Granger. In 1955 he married Emma Lou Forness who survives. Bob graduated from Olean High School in 1951. He was a proud veteran of the Korean War having served in the US Navy from 1951-1955, much of that time aboard the USS Intrepid. He first worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad for 11 years and later was a longtime member of the International Sheet Metal Union where he enjoyed being a sheet metal worker. He took great pride in his work, striving to do a job right the first time. He was a member of St. Bonaventure Church, a Life Member of the Allegany Fire Department and was instrumental in starting the Junior Fire Department. He was also a member of the Allegany American Legion Charles Harbel Post #892 and the Sixty Plus of Allegany. Bob took great joy in being a Santa Clause helper for over 30 years as well as being with his grandchildren. Surviving besides his wife are his children Robert Granger Jr., Kelly Granger, and Aimie Granger-Himes; a sister Char Granger. Grandchildren Kate Himes, Jullia Himes, Paige Himes, Allex Granger, Madison Granger, Joey Williams, and Gillian Williams. Friends will be received on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9pm at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean. Funeral services will be held Saturday (May 28, 2016) beginning with a prayer service at 9am in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30am at St. Bonaventure Church. Rev. James Vacco, OFM, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial, with full military honors accorded by the Allegany American Legion Ritual Team, will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
