Obituary of Ruth Emelia Oberg Raub

RUTH EMELIA OBERG RAUB ALLEGANY - Ruth Emelia Oberg Raub formerly of Valley View Estates died Friday December 27, 2002 at the Maine Veteran's Home in Augusta Maine. Born in Rochester, NY on December 16, 1918 she was a daughter of John Oberg and Teckla Nelson. On September 11, 1948 in Smethport, PA she married Gerald G. Raub who predeceased her May 27, 2000. Mrs. Raub graduated from Kane High School, class of 1936. She later attended and graduated from Millard Fillmore Hospital Nursing training program where she earned her RN and graduated with the class of 1940. In 1941 she entered the United States Army Nurse Corps and served in the South Pacific for nearly five years during WWII. Mrs. Raub was employed at the Olean General Hospital where she worked as Operating Room Supervisor. She also worked as a private duty nurse for many years. She retired from the Olean Medical Group in 1976. Ruth was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Allegany, the Allegany 60 plus club and the Allegany American Legion, post 892. She is survived by a daughter, Marilyn (Terry) Doyle of Waterville, ME and three grandchildren, David and Andrea Mitchell of Alpena, MI and Lee Castillo of Waterville, ME. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a daughter, Sandra L. (Steve) Mitchell. Friends will be received on Monday December 30, 2002 at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 West State Road, Olean from 3-5 PM. Friends may also call on Tuesday (December 31, 2002) at St. John's Lutheran Church in Allegany from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at which time funeral services will be conducted. Rev. Gerard leFeber, pastor will officiate. Burial and committal services will military honors will follow at Allegany Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Memorial Fund or to the 60 Plus Club of Allegany.
